THE SLEEP BENEFITS OF A BATH BEFORE BEDTIME

We’ve long believed in the power of a good relaxing bath before bedtime to aid sleep, and now - according to research1 by the University of Texas - there is scientific evidence to back it up!

The article1 explains that our bodies naturally experience a drop in temperature by 1 degree Fahrenheit about an hour before bedtime, and that ’the temperature cycle leads the sleep cycle and is an essential factor in achieving rapid sleep onset’. Surprisingly, it tells us that a warm bath actually helps the body to cool down. The warm water allows the body to more effectively circulate blood from ‘the internal core’ to the hands and feet, which means heat is more efficiently lost by the body and therefore overall temperature decreases.

The study1 concludes, ‘If baths are taken at the right biological time — 1-2 hours before bedtime — they will aid the natural circadian process and increase one’s chances of not only falling asleep quickly but also of experiencing better quality sleep’.

To really prep you for a good night's slumber, we recommend adding in our wonderfully fragrant Sleep salts infused with lavender and valerian. And when you do, please let us know - we'd love to hear we helped you catch some zzzs!
