As a parent of children with Eczema, hear Penny’s skin story and how she was inspired to develop Skin Repair Bath Salts.
In this series, we are spotlighting the real-life stories of our skin-warriors and their incredible journeys of living with Eczema, Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) & Psoriasis.
Why it is so important to Westlab to
support those living with skin conditions?
It’s so important for Westlab to support those living with skin conditions because, as a brand it is where we started, it's part of our heritage and our founding story. As a parent of children with Eczema myself, I've seen firsthand just how much it impacts their lives, how uncomfortable it is for them and how helpless you feel as a parent. Therefore, as a brand, to be able to offer some soothing comfort into someone’s day, using only pure and natural trusted ingredients, means everything to us.
Tell us the story as to why you developed Skin Repair Bath Salts?
I've used Dead Sea Salts in the bath and creams containing Oatmeal on my kids since they were babies, and know how trusted these two natural ingredients are within the itchy skin community, so pairing them together seemed like the obvious decision. My son always complained about the sticky oatmeal creams that I used to use on him after his baths, so it got me thinking – why don’t we just add the Oatmeal to the bath with the Dead Sea Salt and deliver it that way? We spent years developing the perfect ratio, and after much testing and trialling - Skin Repair was born.
How do the ingredients in Skin Repair Bath Salts help dry, itchy or irritated skin?
In the product, we've put two key ingredients: Dead Sea Salt, which is really soothing and calming for the skin, and then Colloidal Oatmeal, which is really nourishing and protecting. We also added a hypoallergenic, organic, comforting scent of coconut and aloe. Our Skin Repair Bath Salts have gone through rigorous testing and development, and we are delighted to be ready to share them with our valued community.
How do you feel about having the British Skin Foundation accreditation?
It feels amazing that our product, with its 100% natural ingredients, has the recognition from the British Skin Foundation, and after 20 years of us developing products for the itchy skin community, we finally had that approval for our research into skin health.
What does it mean to bring awareness to skin conditions to you?
I am incredibly proud to be a part of this campaign because living with a skin condition is hard, physically and mentally. I don’t want to live in a society where you are made to feel ashamed or embarrassed of your appearance due to having what is actually perfectly normal skin. Surely, it’s time we modernise and move forward from this and normalise normal skin.
