We have always been 100% vegan and cruelty-free and will continue to be so. Our products never contain less than 97% natural ingredients. You can feel confident that our products do not contain parabens, SLS / SLES, synthetic colours, GMO ingredients, mineral oils or propylene glycol to name a few. All our salts are tested to ensure they are safe from pollutants such as heavy metals.
All our packaging is now fully recyclable, and we are working hard to develop more sustainable solutions as an ongoing priority for our customers and our planet.
The Westlab brand was created by two childhood friends, Scott Livingston and Penny Hamilton.One of the original pioneers of natural wellbeing products, Penny was flying the flag for chemical free skincare in the early 2000s, a time when this subject was rarely spoken of or understood.
Having begun her career in Beauty and Spas, and specialising in sensitive skin, Penny had started to research the unnecessary chemicals used in beauty products and their potentially detrimental effects. It soon became Penny’s mission to spread the word of the benefits of more natural products and she opened one of the UK’s first day spas that supported only brands that were free from harsh chemicals.
At around the same time, Scott was discovering the benefits of Dead Sea Salt after his young son developed childhood Eczema. He and his wife had been looking for a more natural alternative to traditional skincare products, and a trip to the Dead Sea resulted in an exciting discovery for them. They started to import Dead Sea Salts and spread the word among their friends and family.
One of these friends being Penny, who was struggling to soothe her daughter’s eczema-prone skin. Seeing first-hand how instantly effective the salts were in her daughter's bath was enough to convince her that they needed to spread the word to a wider audience.
Together, Scott and Penny began their journey in making natural mineral salts accessible to all.
