Sustainability Commitment

Better for our Planet, Better for our People, Better for our Future

Better for our Planet

We don’t feel that bathroom products should ever pollute our planet. Our products are a minimum of 97% made from natural origins, with the majority being 100% pure and natural ingredients. Manufactured in the UK, every product is screened and checked rigorously by our quality control team.

We have never used microbeads and actively promote a natural alternative to them, being one of the first brands to join the ‘Beat the Microbead’ movement in 2016.

We have always been and will always continue to be 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

Our cardboard is made from recycled material and is 100% recyclable.

We’re actively working towards becoming carbon neutral.

Sustainability of our products is key to us. We harvest our salts in a controlled manner, so we do not exploit our finite resources. We are also continually sourcing abundant alternatives to the more finite resources to ensure the protection and sustainability of our planet’s natural minerals.

Our bottles and pots have always been 100% recyclable and will continue to be so.
Since 2018 our technical department has been tirelessly exploring alternatives to our current non-recyclable plastic pouches as part of our commitment to reducing our plastic footprint.
We don’t only stock tradition salt (sodium chloride), our salt portfolio also consists of Maris Sal (Dead Sea salt), Magnesium Sulphate (Epsom salt) and Magnesium Chloride (Magnesium flakes) so it has not been as straightforward as one may think. These mineral-rich salts are not the easiest product to store, they need a certain resilience from their habitat and complete protection from moisture.

We have tested all the compostable products, including cardboard, and they either disintegrate or allow moisture into the pack.

We are now in the final stages of testing an exciting new type of recyclable packaging and are on target to be using this by the end of 2020. It will understandably take a few months for the new packs to filter through to our retail partners, but rest assured they’re on their way.

Better for our People

Our mission has always been to make premium quality, natural, mineral wellbeing that is readily accessible and available. We’re able to supply our products at honest, everyday prices because we source directly from responsible suppliers around the globe. Building these longstanding relationships means not only can we provide our customers with full traceability of the highest quality products, but we are also able to support local communities in countries around the world. Our latest initiatives include helping to reduce poverty by supporting safe working conditions and funding local projects including schools and medical provisions.

We are committed to supporting causes that inspire or make a positive difference to the lives of others. From an Elephant Sanctuary in Cambodia (elephants actually soak their damaged feet in Epsom salt for pain relief) to helping Paralympians on their journey to Tokyo 2021, to supporting our friends over at Tribe in their fight against modern slavery, and our very own ‘Westlab Heroes’, we’re proud and honoured to support inspirational people on their journeys and share their stories with our community.
We have pledged to donate at least one tonne of Westlab Salt to our partners and heroes around the world in 2021.

Better for our Future

We love this planet and the people on it.
Sourcing locally wherever possible and continuing to reduce our overall carbon footprint is a top priority for us. From materials to transport, from packaging to resources, we are committed to continually looking for the most viable, responsible solutions to care for our planet, our people and our future.
